Panagia

Panagia village is a traditional village of Thassos, in a distance of 9 km from the city of Thassos. The name of the village, and the 11 small churches indicate the deep religion faith of the people who lived there. Panagia in 1845 was the capital of the island. The name’s history is from the old church of Holy Mary. At the square of the village, there are many taverns which are well known for their roast meat dishes. There are many traditional shops where you can buy souvenirs and home-made sweets. Do not forget to try some of the local strong liqueur, Tsipouro…

Kazaviti

At the main crossroad of Prino’s village, there is a road which leads to the traditional village of Kazaviti, which is 4 km far away. It is one of the most graphic villages of Thassos island. It is built at the slopes of a deep green slope. Kazaviti has beautufull houses which have wooden balconies and stone walls. Here, you can admire the remains of the old churches and mansions.

 

Archeological Museum of Thassos

It is located at the capital of the island, Thassos ( or Limenas ). It is built near the Ancient Market. In the museum, many ancient collections of unique wealth are kept. You can find some rare artifacts and exhibits which are dating from 7th century B.C up to 7th century A.C. The museum is among the most important district museums of Greece. Important findings from the Stone age and from Roman period, will tell you the story of one of the most important civilizations of the Aegean Sea.

After the entrance of the museum, you will be impressed by the giant Kuros, which was intended for the Apollon altar, you will see the way of survival during the different historic ages, and you will admire the creations and the culture of the first Thassos habitants. In the museum you will learn about the importance of the ocher, about the Stone Age mines of Thassos which were discovered at the location called Tzines, about the rock paints which were discovered at Kastri, you will admire the prehistoric jewels, and get to know the legend of the Olympic Games through the history of Theagenis, the Thassian multi-champion of the Olympics.


 

Beaches of Thassos

During your stay at Studios Albatros room rental, you can visit many beaches. Some of the closest are:

  • Makriammos
    At the east side of Thassos, 10 km from the city of Thassos. It is a beautiful bay with thin sand and small length. It has shallow and clean waters, and is very safe for children. It is well organized with sunbeds and umbrellas, which you can rent, waters sports, taverns and a beach bar. It is a busy beach, in a wonderful area of deep green forest. It is not a public beach though, so you must pay a small entrance fee to get there.
  • Limanaki, Limenas
    It is located at the east side of the city of Thassos, and is a long beach with sand and shallow waters. Perfect for children. It is well organized with sunbeds and umbrellas which you can rent. There are plenty of taverns and beach bars nearby.
  • Glikadi
    Glikadi beach is located 4 km from Thassos port ( Limenas ), is sandy and organized with sunbeds and umbrellas and a beach bar.
  • Papalimani
    Papalimani beach is 2 km away from Thassos ( Limenas ). Is a sandy, small beach which has shallow and crystal clean waters. It is not organized, but is has a bar-restaurant nearby. You can visit Papalimani by tourist cruise boat as well.
  • Nisteri
    Nisteri beach is just outside the city of Thassos ( Limenas ) and is a large organized beach with wonderful deep blue waters, pine trees and a view to the capital of the island!
  • Pahis
    In a distance of 7 km from Limenas, there is a seaside settlement which has a beatifull, organized beach. You can find many taverns, and beach bars. There is frequent transportation for your transition.
 

Nightlife in Thassos

Nightlife in Thassos town is especially developed, because it is the capital of the island. You can find many taverns and restaurants and enjoy tasteful food combinations at the center of the village, but at the near beaches as well. There are plenty of  café-bars, where you can enjoy your drink, and clubs to have fun and dance until the morning!

Some places that worth a visit are the Archeological Museum, the Ancient Market, the Ancient Theatre of Thassos, Kalogeriko house, and the graphic streets at the old fisherman port.
